OUR STORY
I fell for him as my best friend before I ever fell in love.
Dave loves to talk about the first time we met — he was 22 and I was two days past 19. I was getting over a cold and was wearing the most hideous sweatpants and tie dye shirt. He thought I was like, 12.
A month later, our paths crossed again and we clicked as friends. We started hanging out daily and spent time with each other’s families. We got to know each other on a deep level. We rarely hugged. We never talked about feelings. We were buddies!
After a year of hanging out daily, we started wondering if there could be something more there? There were lots of little hints popping up. I remember the day we admitted our feelings to each other and it makes me want to laugh. I was so nervous during that conversation! Sweaty hands, heart pounding.. I was afraid to lose our friendship and couldn’t imagine life without him at that point. We talked about it. We spent a week apart to think it over. We started dating!
About 5 seconds into dating that we knew we wanted to marry each other. The foundation was there. We were good at communicating with each other, we laughed easily together, we had the same life goals and dreams. He was my first kiss, my first love, and now I have spent 1/3 of my life with him!
It’s been a really cool thing to grow into my adult life with his leadership, his humor, his truthfulness, and his ability to see the big picture. I tend to pay attention to what is right in front of me, and over the course of our marriage I have learned not only to lean on him, but to follow him.
